Questions To Ask Your Chiropractor

If you are going to see a chiropractor there are a number of questions that you should ask before you have a full session with them. These questions will help you determine if the chiropractic technique they use is one you are comfortable with and whether or not they are the right practitioner to help you. If the chiropractor is not open to answering these questions then it is recommended that you look for a different practitioner.

Which Techniques Do They Use And Why?

While you might not fully understand the techniques being used, it is important that you find out what techniques your chiropractor often employs. Getting an explanation of why these techniques are used will also help you understand what the chiropractor does. Most chiropractors have experience with a range of techniques and will often employ 4 to 5 different ones depending on the ailment they are treating.

Do They Use Instruments Or Their Hands?

During chiropractic manipulation, an instrument could be used or the chiropractor could use their hands. It is important that you find out which method your chiropractor will be using as many people feel more comfortable with the use of hands. This does not mean that you should not see a chiropractor that uses instruments, you simply need to determine which you are more comfortable with.

Do They Use Low-Force Or Deeper Adjustments?

When people think about chiropractors they will often think about the deep, joint-popping adjustments that you see on TV. However, these are not the only techniques that they will use and you need to determine which your chiropractor will use. Many people are wary of the deeper adjustments because they fear something could go wrong. If this is the case you should be able to ask the chiropractor whether they could use low-force techniques instead.

These low-force techniques will include massage and joint manipulation that does not result in deeper adjustments. If the chiropractor is not able to offer the low-force options you should find out why. There are some conditions that are best treated with a deeper adjustment.

Have They Treated Patients With Similar Problems?

A chiropractor that is experienced in the type of problem that you have will generally be better able to help you. This is due to them knowing what the root cause of the problem is and the best techniques for addressing this. When you have the initial consultation with the chiropractor you should ask them about the patients they have had a similar problem and what their success rate is.

What Training Do They Have

The training that the chiropractor has gone through is very important and every chiropractor needs to have completed training. Most chiropractors will have completed years of study at a reputable institute. You should also find out if they are members of any chiropractic associations or boards which you can verify before you have the full session with them.

There are many questions that you have to ask a chiropractor before they start working on you. You need to find out what training they have and the techniques that they use. You should also know what techniques they will use to you and why.

It would be good to find if your chiropractor has treated patients with similar problems to yours. I like what was said about with this experience, they will be better able to help you. Something else to look into would be to ask how many treatments will be needed in order to see desired results.

We totally agree Jade. The more questions you can ask the better. In our office we make a point to educate our patients about their specific condition. I find that the more you know the faster you will heal.

I like that you recommend to ask the chiropractor about past clients who have had similar problems to yours. I can see why this would help you know if they can help you or not. My dad was recently in a car accident and hurt his back pretty bad. He has an appointment to see a chiropractor tomorrow. I'll have to make sure he asks him about his experience.

Thanks Scott. It is always important to ask physicians if they have experience with your specific condition. Every experience level is different. You must also have a good rapport with said physician.

I like that you mentioned to find out if a chiropractor has experience treating the same problem in other patients. That way, you can know that they know the root of the problem and how best to fix it. I am trying to find a chiropractor to help with my whiplash after an accident. I will be sure to ask about this.

Most definitely Ernest. As with any service you should know if the service provider can perform the task.

My husband has a lot of pain in his neck, so we are wondering how to find the best chiropractor to help him. So I appreciate your tip to find out if the specialist uses instruments or their hands since many people feel more comfortable with the latter. Since I'm sure my husband would prefer the use of hands, I'll be sure that we find a chiropractor that does.

Thank you for the comment Ashley. It is always important to know how a Chiropractor treats conditions and if they have had any experience with said condition.
